A Message from Rabbi Marc
A Jewish response to disasters, such as the devastation that the earthquakes caused in Haiti and Chile, is to help physically, spiritually and/or financially.  Our brothers and sisters in Israel demonstrate a Jewish model that is inspiring and quite moving.  Please watch this short video of the Israeli response to the Haitian disaster, and then consider how you can help the people in Haiti and/or Chile.

A Message from the President

I feel like a kid who couldn't attend the Halloween party at school because I had the chicken pox!  How is it that the president of the Temple misses the biggest party at the Temple in years with the flu??  That's some strange karma, and the rabbi and I are going to have to have a long talk.

That aside, I have to offer my sincere thank you to the Weisel's and the Wolfson's.  I know that the 2010 Temple auction was a huge success because people were texting through out the event telling me how much fun they were having.  Throwing an event of that size can't be done by four people alone however, and I also want to say thank you to all of the volunteers who made last night so much fun.

Catherine and Tony?  I hear that your energy was contagious and you kept the whole shul jumping throughout the entire evening.  Word I got was that your charisma really made the evening.

Of course, I have to give a big shout out to master auctioneer Ron Burgess for his efforts.  Without him poking and prodding, jostling and teasing, last night could have been just another auction.

Thanks to all who attended, all who purchased an item, and an especially big, warm, and deeply felt thank you to all those who contributed.

We are looking forward to 2011!

An Introduction to Temple Emek Shalom from Rabbi Marc

Our name, Temple Emek Shalom, or Kehillat Emek Shalom, can be translated as Temple in the Valley of Peace, and on another level as Congregation of Profound Wholeness. We strive to be a welcoming and joy-filled community.

Temple Emek Shalom (TES) was established in 1973. Our growing congregation serves a wide spectrum of people, youth to elders, singles and families, people from Northern California and from other parts of Southern Oregon, in addition to people in the Rogue Valley.

Adult Education, Family Education and Religious School on Sundays for our children all have a high priority at TES, and we offer a variety of classes in Jewish culture and values, as well as basic, conversational and prayer book Hebrew. Experiential learning is practiced and particularly valued.

Our prayer services reflect our diversity. They are innovative and at the same time evoke the essence of our Jewish tradition. Congregants are actively involved in social action projects in service to our wider community and the world.

I encourage you to contact us for a tour and further introduction to Temple Emek Shalom. You are welcome to join us for services and other activities. Please be sure to introduce yourself. I look forward to meeting you.

B’shalom,

Rabbi Marc
