We are committed to continuing to Jewishly educate our kids past bar/bat mitzvah age. We have a wonderful tradition of partnering with teens and Rabbi Benjamin Barnett at Havurah Shalom in Portland, Oregon for Shabbaton weekends. We have had weekends in the Bay Area, camping in yurts on the Oregon coast, Portland city fun, and Ashland small town fun. We play, pray, dialogue, engage in social justice, learn, and eat with joy.
We have several teen aides (madrichim) who are assistant teachers in our Shul School – part of a program that keeps teens involved in an active and dynamic way.
Additionally many of our teens are members of our local chapter of BBYO, Chutzpah Chai, started by four Emek Shalom teens, now serving Jewish teens across the Rogue Valley (affiliated and non-affiliated). This teen-led initiative has been a place of joy, connection, learning and empowerment for many of our teens.
